Aims and Scope
The Journal of Educational Innovation in Science and Technology (JEIST) is an open-access, peer-reviewed scholarly journal publishing research in science and technology education. JEIST aims to advance knowledge, theory, policy, and educational practice through original, evidence-informed, contextual, inclusive, and technologically relevant research.
JEIST considers manuscripts addressing science education at primary, secondary, and higher education levels, preservice and in-service teacher education, lifelong learning, and formal or non-formal educational settings. The journal gives particular attention to research connecting science education with educational technology, culture and local knowledge, the environment, sustainability, and contemporary educational challenges.
The scope of JEIST includes:
- innovation in physics, chemistry, biology, integrated science, STEM, and STEAM education;
- educational technology and digital learning in science education, including artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, mobile learning, blended learning, virtual laboratories, interactive simulations, and learning analytics;
- the development and evaluation of science learning media, instructional materials, digital modules, applications, educational games, and learning resources;
- inquiry-, problem-, project-, context-, collaboration-, experience-, differentiation-, and personalization-oriented approaches to science learning;
- ethnoscience, local wisdom, community knowledge, culturally responsive science education, and the integration of cultural perspectives with scientific concepts;
- scientific literacy, science process skills, scientific reasoning, argumentation, creativity, communication, problem solving, and critical thinking in science education;
- assessment and evaluation in science education, including authentic, digital, diagnostic, higher-order thinking, and assessment literacy studies;
- preservice science teacher education, teacher competence, pedagogical content knowledge, digital competence, and professional development;
- environmental education, climate change education, education for sustainable development, and future-oriented science education; and
- design and development research, evaluation of educational innovation, and educational policy directly related to science and technology education.
JEIST considers the following types of manuscripts:
- Original Research Articles reporting empirical studies that use quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods designs.
- Research and Development Articles presenting the development and evaluation of learning media, instructional materials, instruments, models, or technologies for science education.
- Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses providing rigorous research syntheses based on transparent and reproducible procedures for searching, selecting, appraising, and analyzing relevant studies.
- Bibliometric Studies examining publication trends, scholarly networks, collaboration patterns, and research themes in science and technology education.
- Conceptual Articles offering critical analysis or developing concepts, theoretical frameworks, or models grounded in a substantial body of scholarly literature.
Classroom action research and studies reporting the implementation of a teaching method may be considered when they have a strong theoretical foundation, an appropriate research design, in-depth analysis, and implications extending beyond a single classroom or institution. Simple descriptive manuscripts reporting only percentages, participant responses, or learning outcomes without adequate analysis and a clear scholarly contribution are not prioritized.
